COSTA RICA
Explore Causes & Consequences of Climate Change in Costa Rica

Causes
1. Burning Trash
Despite being outlawed since 2010, the burning of trash continues in Costa Rica. This practice releases pollutants and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution and climate change. Each garbage fire, although small, collectively adds to the environmental damage over time.
2. Slash & Burn Agriculture
This cultural practice involves clearing land by cutting and burning vegetation, which releases greenhouse gases and contributes to deforestation, worsening climate change. While it has been used for generations, it is highly unsustainable in densely populated areas.
